Shandel Gamer was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was six years old. Growing up in a household where all six chldren took art classes, Shandel remembers paintings covering most of the walls. Primarily a portrait artist, Shandel has developed her own unique pastel and pencil technique. While studying in Israel, she became involved in the cultures of the Middle East, and many of her portraits reflect her fascination with the two divergent peoples who inhabit this troubled area of the world. Shandel's paintings celebrate both cultures and, through her art, she continues to search for the essence of what unites us as human beings. In 1999, Shandel completed her first wildlife painting and decided to commit her artistic energies to a series of wildlife portraits.
