Artist Statement

My art is my own personal world. Of primary importance to me is the mood, as an integral part of the artwork. That is the guiding force through the whole process of creation. By incorporating everyday objects that have a special meaning for me, I achieve my ongoing search of creating those places that exist in my mind. When these objects are incorporated into the artwork, they create for me the abstract, nonverbal feeling I have when I am inspired to create a new image. The combination of those objects, symbols in their own way, actualize the concept I had envisioned. As personal symbols, they satisfy my need to create my realities, but they seem to give a glimpse of my world to the onlooker as well.

Looking at my own finished work takes me back to the place where I was when conceiving and creating the piece. The work is like a window into a moment that has been frozen and is there for me to return to and dwell in whenever I want. It creates an environment that has a different concept of time.

Printmaking gives me added resources. It gives me a flexibility that is inherent in the medium. It leaves me room to refine the finished art piece when it comes to the printing stage of the process. It also has a unique visual quality, such as the way light enhances the slightly elevated lines and surfaces of an etching. The process adds to the end result I am looking for. With all the rich past, it has combined with the present technology to give endless possibilities to be creative and unique.
