Patrick Wright was born in Oahu, Hawaii and raised in San Diego, California. He began his photographic career working as a darkroom technician in the early 1980s. Ultimately, Patrick became a camera operator for a specialized darkroom. There he produced and hand developed photographs and did civil engineering work and reproduction art work.
In the mid 1980s, Patrick began donig commercial photography. He worked primarily doing catalog photography and creating portfolios for private clients.
Patrick's works have appeared in San Diego Metropolitan and Revolt in Style magazines as well as in the San Diego Reader and Umbrella magazine.
Most recently, Patrick focused on fine art photography through Polaroid films for transferring, manipulating, and lifting images. Additionally, Patrick is committed to black-and-white still photography. In 2004, Patrick's works have been featured on Polaroid's Professional Website Gallery.
Artist Statement: After a career as a commercial photographer, I am interested in the subtle to extreme abstractions that can be obtained through non-traditional photography. This new avenue of camera work can be obtained without the use of computer or digital enhancements, yet it offers a freedom of expression that I did not have previously.
