I spent my early years on the coast of New England. I was fascinated by the movement of the sea; whether water currents, the ocean's surface or the spectacular explosion of energy and light in a breaking wave. Thirty years ago I began my study of art with a pencil and a pad of paper. I later discovered the wonders of painting with pastels. The immediacy and tactile nature of this medium suited my needs and has excited me ever since. It has taken many years for me to come to the point in my life where I am comfortable in my ability to capture the movement, the light and the dynamics of the ocean on paper. As an artist, I am constantly searching for innovative ideas that enhance the creative experience. I have discovered suede mat board as a support surface for my pastel paintings. It has added a new dimension to my work.
